Automatic External Defibrillators
Sudden Cardiac Arrest
Striking without warning, sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) kills nearly 350,000 Americans annually, making it one of the nation’s leading causes of death. When SCA strikes, seconds count. With every passing minute before treatment, the chance of survival decreases by about 10 percent.
Most SCA cases are in fact treatable. But only five percent of sufferers in the United States survive because the time to treatment is too long. All that is changing with the availability of Automatic External Defibrillators (AEDs) in the hands of first responders.
What is an AED?
An Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) is a portable defibrillator designed to be used by minimally trained first responders. AEDs are lightweight, easy to carry and handle, and have built-in computers that guide users through the defibrillation procedure. Diagrams show where to place pads. Visual displays and/or audible voice prompts provide instructions to users. The AED automatically assesses the patient's heart rhythm to determine whether defibrillation is necessary.
What Does Banyan Offer?
Banyan is proud to offer AEDs produced by the leading manufacturers of defibrillation equipment: Phillips Medical, Medtronic Physio-Control, and Zoll Medical. These units are lightweight, compact, and easy to use.
The technological advances of AEDs reduces the amount of training needed to effectively use a defibrillator. The goal of AED technology is to make these devices more widely available, opening opportunities for first responders to save lives.
